Speed Optimisation shows the best speed for the highest TCE on each route, and how the speed your vessels performed compares with the speed ordered. TCE stands for Time Charter Equivalent. Watch the interactive guide above for a click-by-click walkthrough.
At a glance
Where to find it: Analytics > Speed Optimisation in the left menu.
Who it is for: Operations and commercial teams who want to improve speed and fuel decisions.
It answers: Are vessels sailing at the ordered speed, and what would a different speed do to fuel cost and TCE?
Access: Enabled per company. If you do not see it in the Analytics menu, contact your GeoServe account manager.
Quick tour
Follow these four steps to get started.
Click Analytics in the left menu, then click Speed Optimisation.
Read the overview: World Scale levels, bunker prices and average parameters by vessel type.
Open each tab to go deeper (see The tabs below).
Use the filter bar on each tab to narrow the results.
The tabs
Each tab looks at speed in a different way.
Tab | What it shows |
TCE – Speed | The demurrage, World Scale level and lumpsum for a route, the bunker prices, and the best speed for each World Scale level |
Speed Comparison | Ordered speed against performed speed, with average engine load, ship days and propulsion consumption |
Standard Routes | The benchmark ports, distances, speeds and consumption for each standard route |
IMOS Approved Reports | The approved noon report data |
Key figures
These figures appear across the dashboard.
Figure | What it means |
Ordered Speed | The speed that was ordered |
Performed Speed | The speed the vessel actually sailed |
Ship Days | The number of ship days included |
ME % | The main engine load, as a percentage |
Avg Power, Total kWh, Total Hours | The average power, total energy and total running hours |
Scrubber / Non-Scrubber Speed (kts) | The speed for vessels with and without a scrubber, in knots |
Filters
Each tab has its own filter bar. Filters you set on one tab do not carry over to another.
Vessel: Vessel Type (the Overview defaults to MR), Vessel.
Voyage: Days from Fixture (defaults to 0–19), Condition, Scrubbers, Route (on TCE – Speed).
Reports: Beaufort and Report Date (on IMOS Approved Reports).
What-if inputs let you test a different scenario:
What you can change: Fuel prices (HSFO, VLSFO, LSMGO), demurrage, weather factor % and the ordered speed.
Your data is safe: These change the calculation only. They never change the underlying data.
A few things to know about how filters behave:
No Apply button: Filters apply when you close a dropdown, press Enter, or pause for about 1.5 seconds.
Clear All: Click it to go back to the default view.
Tips
Compare speeds: Use Speed Comparison to see which voyages ran faster or slower than ordered.
Test a scenario: Change the what-if inputs on TCE – Speed to try a different fuel price or speed.
Export your view: Most tables have an Export button that downloads an Excel file with your current filters applied.
FAQ
Why do my filters disappear when I switch tabs?
On Speed Optimisation each tab has its own filters by design. Set the filters again on the new tab.
Do the what-if inputs change my data?
No. They only change the calculation on screen.
I cannot see Speed Optimisation in the Analytics menu. Why?
Dashboards are enabled per company. Contact your GeoServe account manager to ask about adding it.
